| 2013-2014 Wildcat Highlights |
| 12/18/13 After two good preseason outings, including a 4-1 win versus West Springfield on December 7th and a tough 3-2 loss versus 2013 Division II state finalist East Catholic on December 16th, the Wildcats look to return to their winning ways from a year ago when they finished the season with 5 wins in their last 7 games to gain a playoff berth in the Division II state playoffs. The Wildcat team is returning 13 players from a year ago, including 7 forwards, 4 defensemen and both goaltenders. 10 new faces have been added to the Varsity roster for 2013-14, including 5 forwards and 4 defensemen. With a mixture of youth and experience Coach Nick Boorman and his staff are excited to get the season started against the co-op team of E.O. Smith-Tolland-Windham. |
| 12/21/13 It felt like deja vu. For the second straight season the home opener was going to OT. This time the outcome would be different. With a solid team effort, the Wildcats beat a tough E.O. Smith/Tolland/Windham team 2-1, backed by the strong goaltending of Senior Cam Clark. Senior Max Marson scored the game winner at 3:15 of OT, the result of some nice passing from Jake King and Dan Bahl . E.O Smith/Tolland/Windham had taken a 1-0 lead in the first, but relentless pressure from the Wildcat team paid off in the second as sophomore Colin MacDougald scored the equalizer. The Wildcat offense continued the attack through the third period, finishing the game with 40 shots, but the goaltending of EO goalie Matt Schoen would get his team to OT. |
| 12/28/14 The Wildcats hope to get back to their winning ways after a tough 4-2 loss to Division 1 foe Northwest Catholic in their last outing. After spotting Northwest a 2-0 lead, the Wildcats battle back with the Young Guns leading the way. Freshman Austin Rupp's first Varsity goal brought the Wildcats within one in the second. The Wildcats continued to battle, but again found themselves behind by two, 3-1, when Northwest scored a power play goal in the third. Freshman Jake Bourdeau's first Varsity goal late in the third brought the Wildcats to within one again at 3-2. The Wildcats continued to apply pressure, but a penalty late in the game proved to be their downfall as Northwest scored an open net goal with the man advantage to complete the victory 4-2. Brendan Looney (first Varsity point), Max Marson and Colin MacDougald assisted on the Wildcats goals. |
| 1/4/14 The Wildcats jumped back into the win column on Saturday with a 9-2 decision over Stamford. The team came out strong as they recorded three goals in the first period and another five in the second. The Wildcats showed their team depth as twelve different players’ recorded points. Jake King and Max Marson lead the way with two goals each, Vincent Breda, Brendan Looney, Austin Adams, Austin Rupp, and Colin MacDougald also scored. Cam Clark continued his strong play in net with 33 saves. Of Note: Five Wildcats recorded their first Varsity points including goals from Vinnie Breda and Austin Adams and assists from Ryan Ohannessian, Mike Lupone and Zach Martineau. |
| 1/8/14 The Wildcats are coming off another impressive outing with a 6-0 win Saturday versus Westhill. The Wildcats earned their first shutout of the year with a strong performance by junior goaltender Shane Kertanis, who made 35 saves. The Wildcats continued to show their team depth as the forward lines of Jake King, Max Marson and Colin MacDougald combined for 2 goals, Austin Rupp, Jake Boudreau and Brendan Looney combined for four goals and Mitch Bielonko, Dan Bahl and Isaac Stevens played shutdown defense to insure the shutout victory. Of Note: Jake King’s two points (goal and an assist) included his 50th career point. Max Marson has a point in all four games this season. The “CHEM” line of Brendan Looney (three assists), Austin Rupp (two goals and an assist) and Jake Boudreau (two goals and an assist) combined for nine total points. |
| 1/11/14 Despite having the territorial edge and outshooting their opponents, the Wildcats found themselves trailing 1-0 early in the second period Wednesday afternoon. The team continued to show their grit and their constant offensive pressure (35 shots on net), allowed them to overcome two one goal deficits resulting in a 3-2 victory. Goals by Jake King and Brendan Looney had the score tied at 2-2 late in the third period. The power play unit, which had been moving the puck well all afternoon, came through with the game winner at 3:47 as Jake Bourdeau tipped home a shot from the point. Of Note: The Wildcats three game winning streak is their longest since last year (February 2nd to the 15th, 2013- 3 games). The team, led by senior defensemen Marc Adams and Scott McWhirter, held Enfield/Fermi to 13 shots on net. |
| 1/18/14 After a difficult 5-2 loss against Conard last Saturday, the team got back to business Thursday beating Amherst (MA) 4 - 1. The Wildcats came out strong in the first period, outworking the Amherst squad to take a 3 - 0 lead thanks to Junior Jake King. Amherst came back with a goal in the second period, but the Wildcats team effort made the difference as the offense continued to pressure the Amherst defense throughout the game. Defensively, the team held Amherst to 11 shots on goalie Cam Clark. Of Note: The upcoming four game stretch includes 3 of 4 ranked teams according to cthshockey.blogspot.com, including Division 2, # 3 East Catholic, #8 North Branford and Division 3, #7 Hall-Southington. |
| 1/29/14 The Wildcats look to make it two wins in a row as the return home after going 1-1 on a brief road trip. After a convincing 6-1 victory over a strong North Branford team on January 18th, the team traveled to Cromwell to face number one ranked East Catholic for an MLK afternoon showdown. In a hard fought game, the team ultimately fell 4-1, as East scored two goals including an empty net goal in the third to seal the win. The Wildcats bounced back in dramatic fashion Saturday with a 4-3 win against Conard. Trailing 3-2 with less than three minutes left in the third period, Max Marson and Colin MacDougald scored, the later with 19 seconds left in the game, to seal the team’s victory. Of Note: Tonight’s game marks the start of the second half of the season for the Wildcats. With a 7-3 record through the first ten games, the Wildcats look to continue their push to secure a spot in the state Division II playoffs. |
| 2/6/14 The Wildcats return to the ice winners of their last three games, the latest a 4-1 win Saturday versus Enfield/Fermi. In a game that featured special teams, the Wildcats depth, along with their power play and shorthanded units prevailed. Leading 2-1 on goals by Jake Bordeau and Colin McDougald, the team faced a key 5 on 3 penalty kill situation going into the third period. The goaltending of Shane Kertanis (25 saves in the game) and the unit of Dan Bahl, Austin Adams and Mark Adams turned the Falcons away. The kill energized the team and resulted in third period goals by Austin Rupp and Max Marson to put the game away. Of Note: Goalies Cam Clark and Shane Kertanis have combined for a 0.920 team save percentage. Having qualified for the state playoffs, the Wildcats now look to establish themselves as a top contender in Division II. Tough competition waits including No. 6 Newington-Berlin-Manchester (as ranked by ESPN CT Radio poll), Bolton/Coventry/Rockville and Milford. |
| 2/14/14 The Wildcats return to the ice after a tough 2-1 loss Saturday evening to Bolton/Coventry/Rockville/Lyman Memorial. For the third straight game special teams decided the outcome. BCR took a 1-0 lead in the second period, scoring on a tough angle shot, which snuck past goalie Shane Kertanis (28 saves) and the left post. The power play would tie things up for the Wildcats with some good puck movement and a great give and go down low by Max Marson and Jake Bourdeau. A late penalty kill would be the Wildcats undoing, as BCR scored the game winner on a power play at the 5:52 mark of the third period. Of Note: The Wildcats 4 game winning streak was the longest since the 2008-09 season, when the team won 6 in a row and 11 of 12. |
| 2/26/14 The Wildcats return home after a 7-3 loss Saturday evening to Newington/Berlin/Manchester. The team came out sluggish and as a result found themselves in a 4-0 hole in the middle of the second period. The line of Bourdeau, Rupp and Bahl energized the team with some up tempo play midway through the game, resulting in the first Wildcat goal by Jake Bourdeau (assisted by Mark Adams). The increased intensity caught on as Mitch Bielonko registered his first goal of the season to bring the Wildcats closer 4-2. The 4 goal deficit was just too much to overcome as NBM added another goal to close out the second period leading 5-2. Jake King scored the third goal to close out the scoring for the Wildcats.
Of Note: The wild winter weather has resulted in the Wildcats playing 4 games in the next five days. Senior Night is tomorrow at 6:40 PM versus Wethersfield here at ETR, followed by away games Saturday at Division 1, Northwest Catholic (ISCC 6:15 PM) and a rare Sunday game at Milford (6PM). |

| 2/27/14 The Wildcats return to the ice after a 2-2 draw yesterday evening versus D2-No. 5 Bolton-Coventry-Rockville. In arguably one of their best efforts of the year the team controlled play for most of the game, outshooting their opponents 36 to 21. The intensity of the game had a playoff like feel as the Wildcats held consistent pressure in the offensive zone. Despite outplaying BCR, the team found themselves down 1-0 early in the game. Colin MacDougald scored the first of his two goals on a well-executed two on one, by Jake King to end the first period tied at 1-1. The team continued to outplayed BCR, but again found themselves down 2-1 after two periods. In the middle of the third the hustle of Jake Pallotti drew a penalty and the power play unit wasted little time tying the score 2-2, with Colin MacDougald scoring off a scramble in front of the net on a shot from the point. The Wildcats continued to pressure BCR, including outstanding defensive play from Scott McWhirter, through the remainder of the game through the overtime period. Of Note: The Wildcats continue their busy schedule with 3 games in the next four days. Senior Night is tonight versus Wethersfield here at ETR, followed by away games Saturday at Division 1, Northwest Catholic (ISCC 6:15 PM) and a rare Sunday game at D2-No. 9 Milford (6PM). |
